New and improved way to take notes

My wonderful colleague and co-conspirator Mr. Miraglia went to a conference and got this note taking idea from some teachers (I am sorry, I don't know who...but they are brilliant). Instead of students just passively writing what is on the board/screen in their notes, they instead already have ALL the notes written for them (pasted into a table) but it is their task to write extra information what the teacher says and conduct research simultaneously while listening. This is an active way to a take notes. Students are engaged, they are listening, they are searching they are IN IT not just consuming information.  

Show students the "Research tool" in google docs. This allows them to search the internet WITHIN the document. Check out the example below from one of my amazing 7th grade students.
